PRONOUNS PERSONNELS

Pronoun Personnel

The use of personal pronouns in French is similar to that in English. Attention to the form in third person of the plural, because it also changes with genre.

Je                                           I

Tu                                          You

Il / Elle                                    He / She

Nous                                      We

Vous                                      You

Ils / Elles                                They (masc / fem)

Pronoun Personnel Tonique

The tonic personal pronouns are used to emphasize the participation of a person in a certain action. Although an analog figure does not exist in English, they are very commonly used in French.

Je                               moi

Tu                               toi

Il                                 lui

Elle                             elle

Nous                           nous

Vous                           vous

Ils                               eux

Elles                           elles

Examples:

- Pierre et Sophie vont à la fête.

- Marc vient aussi?

- Lui, non.

- Moi, je n’ai pas parlé avec eux, moi.

- Pierre and Sophie are going to the party.

- Is Marc also coming?

- "Him", no.

-  I am not going to talk to them.
