DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES

 

Demonstrative Adjectives

 

The use of demonstrative adjectives is similar to that in English. They should be used to make reference to someone or something. Demonstrative adjectives should always agree in gender and number with the noun.

Demonstrative pronouns can be followed by ci (here) or là (there), to emphasize proximity or express distance respectively.

 

Examples:

 

Ce stylo est très beau.

This pen is very beautiful.

 

Ce stylo-ci est rouge.

This pen is red.

 

Ce stylo-là est verd.

That pen is green.

 

Ces voitures-ci sont vites.

These cars are fast.

 

Ces voitures-là sont modernes.

Those cars are modern.
